1. Tragedy struck in Enugu on Saturday as a petrol tanker exploded at the Ugwuonyeama section of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, killing no fewer than 18 people, including three children. Thirteen others were rescued, according to a statement signed by the spokesperson for the Federal Road Safety Corps, Olusegun Ogungbemide.

Members of the Lagos State House of Assembly on Saturday cautioned impeached Speaker Mudashiru Obasa against heating up the polity with his claim to a seat from which he was removed by majority lawmakers. Obasa, had denied allegations of corruption leveled against him, describing them as baseless and politically motivated. He insisted that he remains the Speaker.

It was gathered that Chukwuma returned to his home town, Umueji in Asaba, the Delta State capital on Friday for his usual weekend when the assassins killed him in his house. Sources said the 56-year-old professor usually comes home every weekend in Asaba.
