Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian newspapers.

1. Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, former governor of Kaduna State, has alleged that the government of President Bola Tinubu is worse than any military regime Nigeria has ever experienced. Speaking when he hosted former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar at the weekend, El-Rufai described the Tinubu government as a “disgrace to democratic ideals”.

2. Police officers and a passerby were shot dead at a check point in Abugi village, Lokoja local government area of Kogi State, on Sunday morning. The gunmen later struck at a check point along Ilafin Road, Isanlu in Yagba East Local Government, killing another two police officers.

3. Troops from the 3 Division/Joint Task Force Operation ENDURING PEACE (JTF OPEP), a unit dedicated to restoring peace and harmony in Plateau State, have arrested 15 suspected armed militia men. The arrests were made during a joint operation around Jamrop village in the Qua’an Pan Local Government Area of the state.

4. Edo State Special Security Squad on cultism has arrested 20 suspects following a clampdown on cultists over the alleged killing of two people during a cult clash in Auchi and South Ibie, Etsako West Local Government Area of Edo State. The clash, it was gathered, reportedly happened at a popular hotel, the venue of a “signing out” party celebrating the successful completion of the last examination paper of a cult leader at Auchi Polytechnic.

5. No fewer than 16 security personnel are feared dead, while several others remain missing, following an ambush by suspected armed herdsmen supported by local militia gangs during an operation at Agu Centre, a rural settlement in Mbatyula/Mberev Council Ward of Katsina-Ala Local Government Area, Benue State.

6. A notorious bandit leader, Kachalla Ummaru, has warned security operatives that adopting a purely kinetic approach to tackling insecurity in Katsina State would only worsen the crisis, insisting that “if you kill 10 of us today, 20 more will emerge tomorrow.” Ummaru issued the warning at the weekend during a peace meeting between bandit groups and community leaders.

7. Gunmen suspected to be kidnappers have abducted Dr. Muhammed Osolafia, the Senior Special Assistant on Humanitarian Services to Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State. The incident occurred on Saturday night at Tudun Amba in Lafia, when the assailants, who arrived shooting sporadically into the air, whisked him away just as he was about to enter his residence.

8. The Nigerian Meteorological Agency NiMet has predicted rainy and thundery weather conditions from Monday to Wednesday across the country. NiMet’s weather outlook released on Sunday in Abuja envisaged isolated thunderstorms on Monday, with light rains over parts of Adamawa and Taraba during the morning hours in the northern region.

9. Confusion persists over the exact number of military casualties following a terrorist attack on the 152 Task Force Battalion in Banki, a border community in Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. It was gathered on Sunday that several civilian survivors have been evacuated across the border to Mora, Cameroon, for treatment, while many residents have fled the community for safety.

10. Four suspects linked to cattle rustling and motor vehicle theft have been arrested by the Jigawa State Police Command in the Hadejia Local Government Area of the state. This is contained in a statement made available to journalists on Sunday in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, by the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Shi’isu Adam.
