What killed 37-year-old Ibadan’s finest boxer, Akeem “Dodo” Sadiku has been revealed.

It was revealed that Sadiku died of complications arising from surgery.

He died at the University College Hospital, Ibadan on Saturday.

The late boxer has been buried according to Islamic rites.

However, his colleagues have continued to mourn his death.

Sulaimon Ologbade described the late boxer’s death as a “rude shock to the entire Nigerian boxing fraternity.”

The boxer said, “I received the news after I finished sparring in Nottingham, and I lost control of myself. Even my manager saw my countenance and knew I wasn’t myself. It is a huge loss to me and the Nigerian boxing scene.”

Another boxer, Waheed Sogbamu, who represented Nigeria at the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Scotland, said, “Dodo was my national teammate in 2006 when we were preparing for a competition. He was an amazing boxer;he will be missed.”

Silver medalist at the 2019 African Games, Afeez Osoba, added, “Everyone speaks well of him. I have seen some of his fights, he was a fine boxer who will be missed. He left us too early.”

Sadiku had an impressive record of nine wins from 11 professional fights, a loss and a draw.

He was on a six-fight winning streak with the last coming in a knockout win over Ghana’s George Amuzu at the Ilaji Hotel and Sports Resort, Ibadan on December 27, 2020.
