1. Several persons are feared dead and many others injured after suspected armed herdsmen launched a fresh attack on the Makurdi–Naka road. Sources informed our reporter that the attackers struck on Friday evening along the troubled axis, leaving commuters stranded.

2. Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, to the All Progressives Congress, APC. Eno defected in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State Capital on Friday.

3. Following the rampant killings in Benue State and other parts of the country, the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, CBCN, has accused both the Federal and the Benue State governments of failing in their primary responsibility to protect lives and ensure public safety. In a statement signed by Archbishop Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, President of the CBCN and Archbishop of Owerri, the bishops, while condemned the continued killings in Benue State, expressed ‘heavy hearts and deep anguish’ over what they described as ‘utterly barbaric’ attacks on defenceless communities in Benue.

4. Former Nigerian Military President, General Ibrahim Badamasi Babangida has described the Mokwa flood that left almost 200 dead as quite unfortunate and an act of God. Babangida stated this when he received a state government delegation led by the Niger State Deputy Governor, Yakubu Garba on a Sallah Homage at his hilltop residence in Minna.

5. Benue State Governor, Hyacinth Alia, has declared that the state is under siege from terrorists and bandits. Alia, who made this declaration on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Friday, said that the recent attacks that have claimed several lives are well-planned and executed by terrorists.

6. The Police-led Joint Task Force, JTF, in Anambra has raided a suspected criminal camp in Agulu-Ezechukwu, Aguata Local Government Area, killing one suspect.Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, revealed the development in a statement issued on Friday in Awka

7. Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, has canvaseed a single term of six years for elected political office holders in the country. Makinde made this declaration on Friday, in Ibadan, the state capital.

8. The Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Gold Chibuisi has enjoined officers and men of the Nigerian Army to comply with the laws of armed conflict, uphold human rights and conduct themselves professionally to gain the trust of the public in crisis areas. He spoke at a one-day sensitisation on Human Rights and Professional Conduct for Troops of 16 Brigade of the Nigeria Army in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

9. Nigeria’s former Chief Justice, Justice Mohammed Lawal Uwais is dead at the age of 89. Uwais’s family confirmed his passing in a brief statement, saying: “Inna Lillahi Wa Inna Ilaihir Rajiun. With hearts heavy yet full of gratitude to Allah Subhanahu Wa Ta’ala, we announce the passing of our beloved father, Justice Mohammed Lawal Uwais, former Chief Justice of the Federation.”

10. Nigeria’s Super Eagles came from behind to secure a 1-1 draw with Russia in an international friendly at the Luzhniki Stadium in Moscow on Friday evening. The hosts took the lead just before the half-hour mark through an own goal by Semi Ajayi before Tolu Arokodare restored parity for Eric Chelle’s side in the second half following a misplaced pass from the Russian goalkeeper.
