1. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, on Sunday night to participate in the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, which commences on January 27. The President landed at 10:20 p.m. local time (8:20 p.m. Nigerian time) and was welcomed by Tanzania’s Minister of State in the Office of the President, Hon. Ali Suleiman Ameir.

2. An explosion at a mining site in Sabon Pegi, located in Mashegun Local Government Area of Niger State, has resulted in the death of four people and left several others injured. The explosion occurred on Sunday morning when miners had resumed work at the site.

3. Many soldiers and members of the civilian JTF have been killed in an encounter with suspected Boko Haram terrorists on the border of Yobe and Borno states. Security and local sources revealed that the attack occurred on Saturday after the troops reclaimed a major camp of the insurgents in Mai-Saleh area, bordering the two states.

4. The Lagos State House of Assembly has tightened security at the Assembly Complex as lawmakers hold plenary on Monday (today). There are speculations that there might be a showdown at the House as the former Speaker, Mudashiru Obasa, claimed he remained the Speaker of the House on Saturday.

5. The Federal High Court in Lagos on Friday fixed February 27, 2025, for the arraignment of Gbolahan Obanikoro, the son of Senator Musiliu Obanikoro, and four others for alleged N1,356,057,330.43 fraud. To be arraigned alongside Obanikoro are Adejare Adegbenro, 51; Balmoral International Limited; M.O.B. Integrated Limited; and DDSS International Company Limited.

6. The Omoluabi Progressives, a political group led by ex-Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, says its members have resolved to quit the All Progressives Congress. A statement signed by the Organising and Publicity Secretary, Omoluabi Progressives, Oluwaseun Abosede, obtained in Osogbo, stated that the decision to quit APC was the consensus of the stakeholders in the group.

7. Palpable tension has been ignited int Oba community, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State since the state’s newly unveiled security outfit uncovered over 30 graves and shrines in a popular hotel located in the area. The property, officially registered as Udoka Golden Point Hotel and Suites, but popularly known as La Cruise Hotel, located along the Onitsha-Owerri Road was demolished on Saturday.

8. Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have intercepted a consignment of Loud, a synthetic strain of cannabis, concealed in a duvet, packaged for export to the United Kingdom at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos. A statement on Sunday by the agency’s spokesperson, Femi Babafemi, said six parcels of the psychoactive substance with a gross weight of 3.50 kilograms were concealed inside the duvet.

9. An Ondo State Magistrate Court, sitting in Akure, has ordered the remand of three persons, Sabira Izuora, Lukman Isiaka, and Abosede Olanipekun in prison custody for allegedly kidnapping and selling 14 children. Men of the state police command had arrested the trio for allegedly kidnapping the four babies and 10 underage children in Osun and Ondo states.

10. The Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project, SERAP, has filed a lawsuit against President Bola Tinubu, over what it termed arbitrary, unconstitutional, unlawful, unfair, and unreasonable 50 percent telecom tariff hike recently approved by the Nigerian Communications Commission, NCC.
