Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian newspapers.

1. At least 30 passengers were burned to death in an auto crash, which occurred in the Onipetesi area of Mile 49 on the Ore-Lagos Road in Odigbo Local Government Area of Ondo State. It was gathered that the tragic accident occurred at the weekend when drivers of two commercial buses heading for the eastern part of the country drove against the traffic and had a head-on collision, bursting into flames.

2. The Federal Government says plans are ongoing to increase electricity tariffs “over the next few months.” It, however, said that the planned increase needed to be balanced by subsidies for less-affluent electricity users.

3. The Kaduna State Police Command has rescued 23 kidnapped victims in a joint security operation in Kajuru Local Government Area. A statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, said security operatives, acting on credible intelligence, advanced into the Doka Village bush on February 2, 2025, and engaged a gang of armed bandits attempting to relocate their victims to Kajuru Forest.

4. Three people have been killed and three others arrested in a renewed bloody clash between rival cult groups in Onne, Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State. It was learnt that one of the groups first launched an attack on its rival, killing two on Friday and led to a reprisal on Saturday.

5. Suspected gunmen launched a deadly attack on Amegu Nkalagha community in Ishielu Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Sunday morning, killing several residents and setting houses ablaze. The assault is believed to be a reprisal following the reported killing of cattle belonging to herdsmen in the area.

6. Suspected kidnappers have abducted a staff member of a well-known Ibadan-based agro-industrial firm, demanding a N100 million ransom for his release. The abduction occurred on Friday when four employees were returning from the company’s farm in Onigaari village along the Ibadan-Ijebu-Ode Road.

7. Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal Dare, has declared that the decision of the Peoples Democratic Party to back Rt. Hon. SKE Ude-Okoye remains valid, noting that the party will come out stronger from its crisis. He maintained that the PDP needed to learn lessons from certain mistakes, noting that the resolution of the governors’ meeting in Delta showed that the party is making efforts to come out stronger to lead Nigeria to the promised land.

8. Nigerians have been advised to avoid all but essential travel to Uganda and other countries with confirmed Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) cases. This came after Uganda’s Ministry of Health confirmed the outbreak of the Sudan strain of Ebola Virus Disease on January 30, 2025, in Wakiso, Mukono, and Mbale City.

9. The Federal Capital Territory Police Command has rescued a young woman from a suspected armed robber and ritualist. The command has also commenced a manhunt for the suspect. This was made known in a statement shared by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh on Sunday.

10. Two people have been reported dead, while five others sustained varying degrees of injuries in two separate accidents on Saturday along the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway and the Ile-Oba area of the Ogijo/Ita-Oluwo/Ikorodu Road. The spokesperson for the Ogun State Police Command, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement sent to journalists on Sunday.
