Senegal has claimed CHAN Bronze after defeating Sudan on penalties.

Glamtush reports that Senegal clinched the African Nations Championship (CHAN) bronze medal on Friday after a 4-2 penalty shootout victory over Sudan in Kampala.

The defending champions came from behind to draw 1-1 in regulation time before sealing the win at Mandela Stadium, according to the Confederation of African Football (CAF).

Sudan struck early through Mohamed Tia Asad’s header from a corner in the sixth minute, but Senegal responded just before the hour mark when Seyni Mbaye finished off a cross from Ousseynou Seck.

The Sudanese had a chance to snatch victory late on, but Maaz Koko squandered a clear opportunity in front of goal with eight minutes left.

In the shootout, Joseph Layousse, Issa Kane, Vieux Cissé, and Libasse Gueye all converted for Senegal, while Walieldin Khidir and Musab Makeen missed for Sudan.

The bronze offers some consolation for the Lions of Teranga, who lost 5-3 on penalties to Morocco in Tuesday’s semi-final after a 1-1 draw.

Morocco, two-time champions, will face Madagascar in Saturday’s final in Nairobi.
