The primary ingredients for both pancakes and crepes include flour, eggs, milk, sugar and a pinch of salt. However, the proportions vary, leading to noticeable differences:

  • Pancake batter: Pancakes are made with a thicker batter, often including a leavening agent like baking powder or baking soda. This creates their signature fluffiness.
  • Crepe batter: Crepes use a thinner, smoother batter without leavening agents, resulting in their flat and delicate texture.

2. Texture and Thickness

The texture is one of the most defining factors:

  • Pancakes: Fluffy and thick, pancakes have a soft and airy interior, making them ideal for soaking up syrups and toppings.
  • Crepes: Thin and pliable, crepes have a slightly chewy texture and are perfect for folding or rolling around fillings.

3. Size and Shape

  • Pancakes: Typically smaller and circular, pancakes are cooked in individual portions, often around 4-6 inches in diameter.
  • Crepes: Larger and thinner, crepes cover the entire pan, spreading to create a nearly paper-thin round layer.
