Nigerian Newspapers Today:

1. Senate President Godswill Akpabio has attributed the rising insecurity in the country to the forthcoming election, saying there will be a change after the elections. Speaking at the official launch of the Nigerian Revenue Service Corporate Headquarters in Abuja, on Tuesday, Akpabio said President Bola Tinubu is performing so well and those opposed to him do not know what to do than to sponsor insecurity.

2. The African Democratic Congress yesterday expelled the party’s former Deputy National Chairman, Nafiu Bala Gombe, and a member of the House of Representatives, Leke Abejide. The decision was announced at the national convention of the party. Others expelled by the party are; Kenneth Ehiator, (Abia State chairman of the party who identified with Dumebi Kachikwu, Stella Chukwu and Elias Adiukwu.

3. A Federal High Court in Kaduna on Tuesday granted bail to former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, in the corruption case instituted against him by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission. Justice Rilwanu Aikawa delivered the ruling on Tuesday after adjourning the matter from April 1 to April 14, 2026, to consider arguments from both the prosecution and defence.

4. Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr. Hyacinth Alia has ordered security agencies to immediately launch coordinated operations to flush out suspected armed herdsmen camps in forests across the state following renewed deadly attacks on rural communities. The directive affects forested areas in Apa, Otukpo, Gwer-West Local Government Areas, LGAs, and other identified locations believed to be serving as operational bases for the attackers.

5. The Nigeria Police Force has deployed a rapid response team across examination centres nationwide ahead of the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board. This is as the police dismissed circulating rumours about threats to candidates’ safety as unfounded.

6. The Supreme Court has fixed April 22 for the hearing of the appeal arising from the protracted leadership crisis rocking the opposition Peoples Democratic Party. In the proceedings on Tuesday, a five-member panel of the apex court led by Justice Mohammed Garba granted accelerated hearing in the matters and issued strict timelines for the filing and exchange of processes.

7. Kogi State Police Command has arrested six students of the Federal University, Lokoja, on suspicion of cyberstalking. The arrested students are Inajo Henry, Nzekwe Victor, Lucky Victor, Lucky Gambo, and Paul David, along with one other (a 17-year-old minor), all male students of the Federal University, Lokoja.

8. Troops of 82 Division, Nigerian Army, under Operation UDO KA, uncovered an improvised explosive device and recovered ransom cash during operations in Enugu State. This is contained in an operational report released on Tuesday in Abuja. The report said troops of 82 Division Garrison, with 103 Battalion and the Air Component, conducted clearance operations in Ajali Forest, Ezeagu Local Government Area.

9. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Tuesday said colonial-era tax laws impoverished Nigerians through fragmentation, multiplicity, and inconsistencies, and assured that the new reforms will deliver greater prosperity and inclusivity. President Tinubu emphasised that the new tax system is designed to be people-centred and investment-friendly, thereby advancing the nation’s development goals.

10. The National Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) Senator David Mark, has described the ongoing crisis in the party as a generational challenge. Mark said this at the 2026 National Convention of the party in Abuja. Mark said the first National Convention of the ADC under his leadership is one of the most significant gatherings in recent Nigerian democratic history.
