Nigerian Newspapers Today:

1. Ahead of the 2027 general and Presidential elections, strong indications that the newly registered Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, on Sunday made fresh moves to attract two of Nigeria’s most influential opposition figures, Peter Obi and Kwankwaso into a possible joint presidential arrangement. In a post shared on X on Sunday, the NDC signalled what it described as a limited window for both politicians to join its platform before its primary deadline.

2. Indications have emerged that proceedings in the trial of former Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Governor, Godwin Emefiele, may suffer further delays as uncertainty surrounds the availability of a key witness. Sources familiar with the matter said the prosecution may inform the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, High Court that Jim Obazee, a special investigator appointed by President Bola Tinubu, is unavailable to testify in the ongoing case .

3. Residents of Gurbi community in Kankara Local Government Area of Katsina State have prevented an incursion into their homes by bandits. A resident of the town, who requested anonymity, said the attackers arrived earlier in the evening but were initially unable to enter the town as members of the community gathered to protect their village.

4. There are strong indications that domestic airlines in Nigeria may halt operations from April 30, 2026, over what operators described as unbearable and unsustainable aviation fuel prices, raising fresh fears of widespread travel disruption across the country. Industry insiders say the airlines, having engaged both the Federal Government and oil marketers without a breakthrough, may be left with no option but to ground flights.

5. For the third time in April, a Nigerian, Ademola Oke, has died after being found unresponsive at his workplace in the United Kingdom. This is just as the family appealed for public support following his sudden death.

6. All Progressives Congress National Secretary, Ajibola Basiru, on Sunday upbraided Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde for invoking, at an opposition parties’ meeting in Ibadan, the Operation Wetie saga in the old Western Region in the First Republic. Basiru branded the governor’s statement inciting and irresponsible.

7. As the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited continues its search for technical partners to operate the Port Harcourt, Warri, and Kaduna refineries, former President Olusegun Obasanjo has once again insisted that the facilities will never work. Obasanjo spoke during a television interview aired on Saturday night by Sony Irabor Live.

8. Airstrikes by the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) have destroyed terrorist hideouts in Ali Sheriffti, a known enclave in the southern Tumbuns of Northeastern Nigeria. According to a statement by NAF’s spokesperson, Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the strikes were carried out on April 24.

9. Three mourners have been shot dead by gunmen in an attack at Sati Ikov ward of Ushongo Local Government Area of Benue State. It was gathered that two other persons were abducted during the incident, which occurred at the weekend as the victims were returning from a burial ceremony.

10. No fewer than 20 persons are feared killed following coordinated attacks by suspected ethnic militias on Kwah and Gyakan communities in Lamurde Local Government Area of Adamawa State. According to residents, assailants from one side of the conflict stormed Gyakan in an early morning attack on Saturday, razing homes and displacing inhabitants.
