The Minister of Labour, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has resigned.

Glamtush reports that he Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has stepped down from her position.

She became the third cabinet member to resign following President Bola Tinubu’s directive for appointees seeking elective office in 2027 to vacate their positions.

She announced her resignation on Friday through a letter shared on her social media platforms, three days after the March 31 deadline set by the president.

Onyejeocha, however, did not disclose the elective position she intends to contest in 2027.

She wrote, “It is with a heart full of gratitude that I announce my resignation as Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment.”

Onyejeocha expressed gratitude to the president, members of the Federal Executive Council, and Nigerians for the opportunity to serve.

“This decision comes with profound gratitude to His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for the opportunity to serve Nigeria in his administration.

“This is not an end but a new beginning. I remain committed to service, to progress, and to building the Nigeria we all deserve. Thank you, and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“This period marks the end of a significant chapter in my journey of service as I formally resign as Honourable Minister of State for Labour and Employment,” she wrote.

Onyejeocha described her tenure as a privilege and thanked the president for the confidence placed in her.

She also commended ministry staff for their “dedication, professionalism, and partnership,” noting their contributions in strengthening workers’ rights, enhancing workplace safety, and expanding employment opportunities.

The former lawmaker, who represented Isuikwuato/Umunneochi federal constituency of Abia State in the House of Representatives from 2007 to 2023, also thanked her constituents for their support over the years.

“As one chapter closes, another opens. I remain committed to service, to progress, and to building the Nigeria we all deserve,” she added.

Her resignation follows similar moves by the Minister of Transportation, Said Alkali, who resigned to pursue the governorship of Gombe State, and the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Tuggar, who also stepped down to join the Bauchi State governorship race.
