A Nigerian Mom’s Guide To Juggling Motherhood And Creative Passions

Being a mom, as any parent will tell you, is a juggling act. Between the school runs, the endless laundry, and the chorus of “mom, I’m hungry!”, finding a spare moment can feel like searching for a unicorn.

But a growing number of moms are finding unexpected allies in their daily battles, thanks to the rise of online shopping platforms.

For Mimie, a 28-year-old visual artist and mom of two living in bustling Abuja, Nigeria, life is a constant juggling act, balancing the demands of her young children, her creative passions, and her marriage.

“One of my biggest challenges is being able to care for the kids the way they both need at the same time and still show up for myself and my husband without being burnt out,” Mimie says.

In the process of figuring out the tricky balance of a daily routine, Mimie found a valuable ally in Temu. She first came across the platform through online ads, but her desire to rekindle her content creation career led her to explore its offerings more seriously.

The little lifesavers that make a big difference

As a postpartum mom whose baby struggles with reflux, Mimie often had to hold him upright for long stretches, leaving her in pain and unable to move freely. On Temu, she found what she calls her “little lifesavers”— small but powerful items that ease everyday pressures. Her current favourite: a baby wrap.

With it, she can now manage daily chores and spend more time with her older daughter. Before, breakfast often wasn’t ready until late morning because her son’s routine kept her occupied. Now, mealtimes are back on track, and more importantly, her daughter no longer feels she has to compete for attention. She was able to be there for both kids at the same time.

“My baby wrap is my go-to. It lets me carry my son close while still having my hands free to get things done,” she says.

What may look like a simple piece of fabric has become her secret weapon, helping her manage a busy household with far more ease. She’s even shared a video on social media showing just how transformative it’s been.

But for Mimie, Temu isn’t only about practicality; it’s also about joy. She lights up when recalling her daughter’s reaction to receiving flashcards, educational toys, and new clothes.

“She kept saying ‘thank you, mommy’ for days,” Mimie says. These small wins, the sparks of connection and happiness, are what fuel moms like her through tougher days.

Getting ready for the next chapter

With her children edging closer to school age, Mimie can see the potential for platforms like Temu to alleviate the stress of key family milestones. The annual back-to-school rush, for example, often feels more like a marathon than a simple shopping trip, with the need to find value and quality for everything from stationery and backpacks to lunch bags turning into a full-blown mission.

The platform’s focus on affordability resonates deeply with many parents. In fact, a recent IPSOS survey found that 80% of respondents globally believe Temu offers value for money, with shoppers reporting average savings of 24%. More than half of those surveyed also stated they would recommend the platform to others.

For Mimie, the appeal lies in being able to find everything in one place, from sturdy backpacks and lunch boxes to fresh notebooks and pens, all delivered right to her door.

These small conveniences add up to a big win for any parent. They don’t just save precious time; they lighten the mental load of preparing for a new school year. And for moms like Mimie, that means one thing: a little more space to enjoy the beautiful, chaotic journey of motherhood.
