‘Your Music Is Ever Green’ Late Ras Kimono’s Daughter Celebrates Him On 62nd Posthumous Birthday
Oge Kimono, daughter of legendary reggae artiste, Ukeleke Onwubuya popularly known as Ras Kimono took to social media to celebrate her father on what would have been his 62nd birthday today, May 9.
Oge shared a tribute on her Instagram to celebrate her father who she calls her best friend and mischief partner on Saturday.
She penned down:
“Today I celebrate you my father, my best friend, my mischief partner, my mentor, my confidant. Words can’t explain how much I miss you! So this year has been one hell of a roller coaster. Your music is ever green and so relevant in this time and period.
She also added that late Ras Kimono’s song ‘Under Pressure’ is evergreen and relevant at this time because the whole world is under pressure because of the Coronavirus pandemic affecting the world and everyone is wondering what is happening.
“The whole world is UNDER PRESSURE as everybody is wondering WHATS GWAN. WICKED POLITICIANS are still toying with the lives of the masses especially down here a yard. BABYLON’S BURNING and definitely nuff people will be pushed to the DRAGON’S PIT.
“So many people are dying of hunger out here inna we country as everyone is asking where is MR PRESIDENT. Only Jah knows the reason why he took you so early cos I am sure that a time like this will certainly make NATTY GET JAILED as you will stop at nothing speaking truth to light and exposing the agenda of evil men who sit in power. Keep Resting in Power till we meet to part no more. Blessed Posthumous Earthstrong mi Lion.”
Oge who is also a reggae artiste like her late father, on January 1, 2019, took time to reflect on 2018, a year she described as the year she felt her faith in God was being tested. And that was because the reggae singer lost her dad and his wife in a space of three months in 2018. While Ras Kimono died on June 10, his wife, Efemena Okedi, died on September 23.
Ras Kimono was one of the veterans from the ’90s who continued to remain relevant on the music scene, mentoring and contributing to the Nigerian entertainment industry.
He released his solo debut album ‘Under Pressure’ on the Premier Music label in 1989, which propelled him to instant continental stardom.
The album had hits like ‘Under pressure’, ‘Rasta Get Jail’, and the massive hit ‘Rhumba style’.
