So, here are the top newspaper headlines making waves across Nigeria today, 10th August 2026.

 

1. Prominent leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, led by a former governor of Osun State, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola have declared support for the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Osun State, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji. The former PDP National Vice Chairman, Southwest, Alhaji Tajudeen Oladipo and former Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Fatai Akinbade and other PDP members pledged allegiance to vote for Oyebamiji.

2. The National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Prof. Nentawe Yilwatda, has announced that the party has completed the upload of its candidates for all elective positions in the 2027 general elections on the portal of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC. Yilwatda disclosed this at the weekend after the completion of the exercise, which he said was done ahead of the original deadline set by INEC.

3. A farmer in Kastina-Ala Local Government Area of Benue State has been forced to abandon his farm after suspected bandits demanded N500,000 from him as a condition for accessing and harvesting his crops. The farmer, whose identity was not disclosed, is a resident of Mbagena Council Ward in Kastina-Ala LGA, where suspected local bandits have allegedly been terrorising residents and imposing ransom demands on members of the community.

4. The Nigeria Customs Service, NCS, says it uncovered 399 fully assembled Jojef firearms and assorted rifle parts following the detailed examination of a seized shipment at the Tin Can Island Port Command. The service made this known in a statement by its National Spokesperson, Abdullahi Maiwada, on Sunday in Abuja.

5. Lagos State Police Command has commenced an investigation into the death of a 23-year-old female student of the Nigerian Law School at the institution’s hostel in Victoria Island, Lagos. The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026, when the student, identified as Alayande Faith Ajoke, was found unresponsive within the hostel premises.

6. Operatives of the Lagos State Rapid Response Squad, RRS, have arrested more than 30 suspected miscreants during a midnight enforcement operation along the Lekki-Ajah Expressway. The operation, conducted on Sunday, was targeted at individuals allegedly causing disturbances and posing security concerns to motorists and other road users along the axis.

7. The House of Representatives Ad Hoc Committee investigating the controversy surrounding the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council is yet to decide where it will question the council’s self-appointed Director-General, Adeniyi Adeyemi, a source familiar with the committee’s proceedings has disclosed. The development comes as Adeyemi insisted that his lawyers and journalists must be present before he submits to questioning by the House committee.

8. Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has described a statement by the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, ahead of Saturday’s governorship election as an indication that the All Progressives Congress plans to rig the poll. Adeleke made the allegation in a statement signed by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, and obtained by our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday.

10. Cameroon have secured a place in the semi-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, WAFCON, after defeating defending champions, Nigeria 1-0 in their quarter-final clash in Casablanca on Sunday. Myriam Maéva Nyadjou Wamen scored the decisive goal in the 19th minute at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium to give the Indomitable Lionesses an early lead.
