Shanty Town director Dimeji Ajibola is dead.
Glamtush reports that popular Nollywood director and editor Dimeji Ajibola is dead.
Ajibola is said to have died in the early hours of Sunday, November 3, after a battle with an undisclosed illness.
Confirming the news, actor Bolanle Ninalowo, in a captioned photo on Instagram, wrote, “I love you, brother, and I miss you, Dimeji Ajibola. May God heal your family and loved ones. Till we meet again, didi dox, rest on the champ.”
Also, his colleague, Samuel Olatunji disclosed this in a message he sent to Tribune Online, confirming the news.
In an emotional Instagram post, actor Jim Iyke shared his grief, writing: “I CANT MAKE SENSE OF IT. TO MAKE SENSE OF IT IS TO ACCEPT IT. TO ACCEPT IT IS TO QUESTION GOD… THIS PROJECT IS YOUR LAST LEGACY BRO… IN YOUR WORDS ” This is the project every filmaker waits for”. THE WORLD WILL, YET AGAIN, WITNESS YOUR SINGULAR BRILLIANCE AND AMAZING PERSONALITY… REST IN GOD’S BOSSOM D. THE SHOW MUST GO ON IN YOUR NAME.”
Ajibola was celebrated as a creative force and a visionary in the entertainment industry, blending traditional and digital art forms in groundbreaking ways.
His work spanned film, animation, VFX, virtual worlds, and interactive media.
He held a diverse educational background, having studied filmmaking and cinematography at the New York Film Academy in Universal Studios, advanced character animation at Animation Mentor in San Francisco, and visual effects at VFXLearning.
The deceased was the director of the 2023 Nigerian crime thriller series ‘Shanty Town.’
As the CEO and Technical Director of Flipsyde Studios Ltd., Ajibola built a reputation for excellence and innovation. His work on Hoodrush in 2012 marked Nigeria’s first urban musical film, showcasing his ability to bridge narrative storytelling with rich musical elements.
The film won multiple awards, including Best Movie at the 2012 Green Me Film Festival in Germany, Best Actor and Soundtrack at the Nollywood Movies Awards, and Best Supporting Actor at the AMAA Awards.
