Robbers Attack Bank In Ondo, Kill One, Many Injured
Armed robbers on Thursday evening attacked a bank at the Ode-Irele, headquarters of Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State killing one person in the incident.
The robbers stormed the community around 4:00 pm shortly after the visit of the Inspector General of Police to the state command.
According to an eyewitness, the robbers numbering nine stormed the bank and carted away an undisclosed amount of money from the bank.
The operation was said to have lasted over 45 minutes without any arrival of security personnel.
An eyewitness said the robbers gained entrance into the bank, after using explosives suspected to be dynamite to blast the bullet-proof door which was followed by sporadic gunshots.
According to the eyewitness, one person was killed by stray bullets and his lifeless body had been taken to the hospital.
“The robbers started shooting sporadically to scare people away and to ease their escape after robbing the bank.
“While they were shooting, stray bullets hit one person and he died while others were injured,” he said.
The state Police Public Relations Officer of the command, Mr Tee-Leo Ikoro confirmed the incident.
