Hair is a powerful extension of self-expression, and for many Nigerian women, it’s also part of their daily ritual and a form of creative exploration.

Whether curly, coily, wavy, or straight, embracing great hair means keeping your strands safe and your confidence high.

This year, online marketplace Temu is helping local shoppers achieve just that, without breaking the bank. From moisture-rich and synthetic wigs and braids to heatless styling tools and fun accessories, Nigerian women are exploring trends that combine style with practicality.

For Harris Kofoworola, a hair and beauty influencer, hair is not just about looks; it’s about quality and transformation. “I got a 32-inch fibre wig with Swiss lace from Temu, and the lace is really nice and soft, and the hair is super bouncy,” she shares enthusiastically. “I feel like this is the highest quality of fibre you can get out there.”

Harris was particularly impressed with the wig’s seamless appearance and high quality. She noted how the lace melted effortlessly onto her head, allowing for a glueless install, and that with a bit of plucking, the hairline achieved an HD look. She styled the wig into a side part, confidently predicting and then confirming she’d embody an “Oga Wife” aesthetic, ultimately feeling she had styled the hair to perfection. Despite the ₦68,000 cost, she found it to be entirely worth the investment.

This year’s hair trends are all about protection and practicality, with a stylish twist. The return of the classic ‘90s supermodel blowout is popular – a voluminous look that can actually be achieved without heat, especially when paired with a thick headband to extend wash day. Other trending looks include sleek centre partings, elegant sculptural braids, chic ultra-short bobs, and all manner of braided styles – think stunning tribal, intricate Fulani, and versatile knotless braids.

And when it comes to easy style switches, wigs are having a major moment, especially with more affordable options available online. “Temu has got great hair accessories,” Victoire, a content creator, says. She was pleasantly surprised by her own Temu purchase: “I was very surprised by the quality I got from Temu for a synthetic wig.” Victoire’s experience highlights the power of good styling: “So I can actually make a low-quality wig nice and very stylish and beautiful if I have a good stylist.” Her advice for anyone looking to experiment? “Just in case you are looking forward to getting a frontal or doing a birthday shoot, just get a good hairstylist.”

Cost-effective ‘experiments’ like these are a great way to try something new without the commitment – or the heat damage. Whether you’re switching up your style or embracing protective looks, Temu offers a wide range of quality, affordable products to support your hair journey. Think silk bonnets, wig caps, scalp protectors, detangling brushes, heatless rollers, and more.

While experimenting with new looks is exciting, prioritising hair care is essential. Harris emphasizes that her personal hair routine must be simple, effective, and long-lasting. For wigs, this means using appropriate products for synthetic or human hair and practicing gentle care like detangling from ends to roots, washing in cool water, and air drying whenever possible. It’s also important to store and treat hair accessories and wigs mindfully, with some even finding that microwaving wigs in a plastic bag for a few minutes can surprisingly soften them.

Temu is empowering women across Nigeria to enjoy better hair days, offering options that are both budget-friendly and trend-forward. This commitment to value is echoed in a recent IPSOS survey, which found that 80% of respondents globally believe Temu offers value for money, with shoppers reporting average savings of 24%. More than half of those surveyed also stated they would recommend the platform to others, underscoring its rising reputation as a go-to for smart, savvy shopping.

Ultimately, healthy hair and confidence are all you need to feel unstoppable.
