GPBN has condemned the sexual assault and molestation of women at the Ozoro festival in Delta State.
Glamtush reports that the Guild of Professional Bloggers of Nigeria (GPBN) strongly condemns the disturbing reports of widespread sexual assault, harassment, and molestation of women during the recent Ozoro festival in the Isoko community of Delta State.
This is contained in a statement signed by Abiola Alaba Peters, National Public Relations Officer of the association on Saturday.
The statement noted that what should have been a celebration of culture and community has instead been overshadowed by deeply troubling acts of violence against women. These reprehensible incidents represent a gross violation of human rights, dignity, and personal safety, and must not be tolerated under any circumstances.
“We demand that the Delta State Police Command and relevant security agencies take immediate and decisive action to investigate this ugly incident in Ozoro, ensure that suspects are arrested, prosecuted, and made to face the full weight of the law.
“Survivors must be provided with adequate medical, psychological, and legal support, and their identities must be protected throughout the process. We urged that the case should not be swept under the rug, settled quietly, or dismissed due to negligence, bias, or corrupt interference.
“Justice for rape survivors in Ozoro is not a request, it is a right. The Government of Delta State must demonstrate its commitment to the safety and dignity of its citizens by strengthening legal frameworks, supporting anti-gender-based violence initiatives, and ensuring that no perpetrator goes unpunished.
“Furthermore, the community, civil society organisations, and the media must stand united to break the silence, support survivors, and send a clear and unequivocal message that sexual violence will never be tolerated in Ozoro or anywhere else in Nigeria.”
GPBN stands in solidarity with all survivors and calls for urgent, coordinated action to restore safety, accountability, and justice.
