Many Nigerians today feel overworked, pressured, and squeezed to the point of anxiety, depression, and disease. And it does not seem to get any better.
However, as the saying goes… ‘All work and no play makes Jack a dull boy.’ There is a leader who sees relaxation as an effective way of cushioning the negative effects of hard work. That man is Governor Ifeanyi Ugwanyi, a PDP member and leader in the South East – the governor of Enugu state.
Paradoxically, the best way to get more work done may be to spend more time doing less. Research shows that strategic renewal -including daytime workouts, short afternoon naps, longer sleep hours, more time away from the office m, more frequent vacations – boosts productivity, job performance and, of course, health.
It is based on this premise that the all round governor of Enugu State, Gburugburu is trying to bring back old Enugu parks which he has demonstrated by branding Enugu Unitu Park to an international standard and has also started revamping all the abandoned parks in Enugu state. The Enugu unity park is in the heart of Enugu and is one of the best multi purpose parks in this country.
“Adding relaxation to hardwork will help maintain a seemingly sustainable peace of mind, good health and long life,” Governor Ifeanyi Ugwanyi maintained.
A member of Enugu State Basic Education Board, Hon. Nnaemeka Charles Eze, affectionately known as Nani Boi takes Zebra News into what the number one citizen is doing to revamp relaxation centers and fun-spots within the state.
“My leader, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, is committed to making Enugu a better place, not just for its citizens, but for all; I mean both indigenes and non-indigenes. Although, he is one person that encourages dedication and hardwork, he doesn’t joke with the comfort and mental stability of his people. He believes, there’s a time for everything, a time to work and a time to relax, unwind and put yourself together.”
“So in other to do this, the governor first identified the need to put some places and facilities in structure. He has decided to reform all our parks into recreational and relaxation centers. Places that will not only be safe for people, but stress free with a conducive atmosphere. Let me give you a verifiable example; Enugu Unity Park was recently rebranded and is still being branded with facilities that can match up to an international parks.
“The Enugu Unity Park is in the center of Enugu and is about the best place to relax and unwind with your friends and family, experiencing natural breeze and environment. It has a lion sculptor which is arguably the biggest Lion sculptor in African, with a mini event center inside and fully air-conditioned. The park has different sections including the section for kids. Most Nollywood movies shot in Enugu use this park. Students, families and friends come from afar just to have picnics in the park. The park is well lit in the night with solar powered systems,” he said.
Stressing further, Mr Eze added; “recently, the governor in company of the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Hon. Ugonna Ibe and other stakeholders visited some abandoned state owned parks, in a bid to restore them to their original purpose. These are parks that have been illegally converted to churches, residential areas and automobile workshops. He immediately made funds available for the parks to be cleaned up. His mission is to ensure that these facilities are put into effective use in line with their original purpose in the overall interest of his people.”
Enugu State is in the hands of God.
