Georgia To Recount US Election Ballots By Hand – Secretary Of State
The U.S. state of Georgia would conduct a full manual recount of the Nov. 3 presidential election ballots in each county.
Georgia’s Secretary of State, Brad Raffensperger, announced this at a press briefing on Wednesday.
He stated that the recount was necessitated by the close margin between the two major contenders, incumbent president, Donald Trump, and Joe Biden.
President-elect Joe Biden is leading Trump with 2,471,906 to 2,457,794 votes, representing a difference of 14,111 votes.
“With the margin so close between them, it will require a full by hand recount in each county (local government area).
According to him, “This will help build confidence. It will be an audit, a recount, and a recanvass all at once.
“It will be a heavy lift, but we will work with the counties to get this done in time for our state certification.”
The decision is coming hours after Trump’s campaign organisation and the Georgia Republican Party demanded a hand recount before the results were certified.
Brad Raffensperger earlier admitted that there was illegal voting in the state during Tuesday presidential election.
However, Raffensperger, whose office oversees Georgia’s election, added that he doubts if the number of such illegal votes would upturn the result.
