Fire Guts Scores Of Shanties In Ebute Meta, Lagos
Scores of shanties have been razed by fire at Okobaba, Ebute Meta area of Lagos State.
The PUNCH gathered that the fire outbreak started a few minutes past 07 pm on Sunday.
The cause of the fire outbreak could not be ascertained as of the time of filing this report.
An eyewitness, Amodu Shehu, lamented that the incident recurred one year after the area was gutted by fire.
The PUNCH reports that in the November 8, 2019 fire outbreak, no fewer than five buildings, and many shanties were razed, including a bakery.
The inferno, which lasted about three hours in 2019, gutted buildings and shanties on Jebba, Okobaba, Tapa, Coates, and Kano streets around noon.
It also rendered thousands of people homeless, with some having to sleep at the burnt site, Okobaba Football Pitch, and Okobaba Sawmill for many days.
Efforts to reach the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency proved abortive as of the time of filing this report.
