The new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP) bloc of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Monday boycotted a reconciliatory meeting with the Presidency and the leadership of the APC.
This development followed an invitation to the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki by the Police over allegation linking him to the armed robbery operation at Offa, Kwara State, in April during which 33 people were killed.
In a statement, the chairman of the nPDP group, Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, said his group could not attend the meeting with such intimidation and threat to life.
Baraje said it appears the Presidency may have been negotiating with them in bad faith.
He said, “we were alarmed that immediately after our meeting with the vice-president last week, the presidency misrepresented what transpired at the meeting by trying to blackmail some of the principal actors involved in the discussions in a national daily.
“Similarly, the leadership of the party (APC) went ahead to ratify all the congresses from wards, local governments, states and zonal where many of our members have complaints, effectively presenting us with a fait accompli.”
Meanwhile, the Police Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, had Monday written to the Senate President to respond to the allegations against him on the activities of his boys involved in the Offa robbery incident in writing instead of appearing in person as the Police had earlier demanded.
The new position of the Police may not be unconnected with the outcry that followed their first invitation ordering the Senate President to appear in person.
It was gathered that Saraki has also accepted to send his response within 48 hours as demanded by the IG.
