The stage is set for the Ambassador Segun Olusola Annual Lecture at UNILAG as the 7th NBMA heats up.
Glamtush reports that the Nigerian broadcasting industry is set to converge at the University of Lagos on Tuesday, July 21, for the Ambassador Segun Olusola Annual Lecture, a high-profile gathering designed to shape the future of broadcasting in Nigeria.
The lecture is organised by the Nigerian Broadcasters Merit Awards (NBMA) in collaboration with the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Lagos, with the support of the Communication and Media Studies Students’ Association (COMSSA). The event will be held at the Afe Babalola Auditorium, University of Lagos, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
With the theme, “Passing the Mic: Bridging Generations, Restoring Professionalism, and Securing the Future of Broadcasting,” the two-hour lecture will bring together accomplished industry leaders, regulators, academics, broadcasters, and emerging media professionals to examine critical issues surrounding mentorship, professionalism, regulation, innovation, and the future of Nigeria’s broadcasting industry.
The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos, Professor Folasade Ogunsola, FAS, OON, will serve as the Chief Host, while the Dean of the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, University of Lagos, Professor Sunday Oloruntola, will serve as the Host. Delivering the keynote addresses are renowned broadcaster Mr. Sonny Irabor; the Chairman of the Independent Broadcasters Association of Nigeria (IBAN), Dr. Tijjani Ramalan; and the Lagos Zonal Director of the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC), Mr. Ralph Akpan.
The lecture will be anchored and moderated by celebrated music icon and presenter Zdon Paporella, who will guide conversations focused on the evolving landscape of broadcasting in Nigeria.
The panel session will feature distinguished media professionals, including Gbemileke Oscar Oyinsan, Cordelia Okpei, MC Icewater, Victory Wilson, Shine Begho Usanga, Moses Humphrey, and Abigail Isaiah, who will offer practical perspectives on the challenges, opportunities, and responsibilities shaping the next generation of broadcasters.
Beyond the keynote presentations and panel discussions, the annual lecture will provide a valuable platform for networking, knowledge exchange, and meaningful engagement between experienced professionals and aspiring broadcasters. It also seeks to reinforce the enduring values of professionalism, excellence, ethical practice, innovation, and intergenerational mentorship within Nigeria’s broadcasting ecosystem.
The Ambassador Segun Olusola Annual Lecture was instituted to preserve and celebrate the remarkable legacy of the late Ambassador Segun Olusola, a distinguished broadcaster, diplomat, and nation-builder, while fostering conversations that will strengthen the future of the broadcasting profession.
