1. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday visited former Rivers State Governor and ex-Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, at his residence in Abuja. 2. No fewer than five persons, including two children, were killed on Thursday, while 10 others sustained varying degrees of injuries in a road crash at Iyana Egbado along the Abeokuta-Lagos Expressway. The lone accident involved a white Mazda E2000 bus with registration number KRD 809 XC, conveying 20 passengers at the time of the incident.

3. The two emirs laying claims to the Kano emirate stool, Muhammadu Sanusi II and Aminu Ado Bayero, have announced the suspension of all Eid-el-Kabir Sallah durbar in the state. ‎The decisions, announced in separate briefings, were said to have followed security concerns and directives from law enforcement agencies after the duo announced plans to hold parallel durbars.

4. Former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has formally joined the National Democratic Congress, NDC, declaring his intention to contest the Delta Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections. Omo-Agege announced his decision in a statement issued on Thursday, a few days after resigning from the APC.

5. The presidency on Thursday warned Nigerians against the growing circulation of fake media content and digitally manipulated materials designed to mislead the public, inflame religious sentiments, and discredit the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. In a public notice posted on the Presidency’s verified X handle, the government accused desperate political actors of deploying deepfake technology and coordinated disinformation campaigns ahead of the 2027 election season.

6. The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention, NCDC, on Thursday, placed Lagos, the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Kano, Rivers and several other states on high Ebola preparedness alert following the classification of Nigeria’s risk of importing the deadly Bundibugyo Ebola Virus Disease as “HIGH”. In a notice to Commissioners for Health across the 36 states and the FCT, the NCDC warned that Nigeria must urgently strengthen infection prevention systems.

7. Blessing Fubara, brother of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has declared his intention to contest the Rivers State governorship election under the Nigerian Democratic Congress, NDC, vowing to serve only one term if elected. 8. Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar on Thursday lamented that ransom payments have become as routine a household expense for Nigerians as school fees and rent. He slammed the President Bola Tinubu administration for celebrating debt statistics while the country bleeds from a security and economic crisis of devastating proportions.

9. The Nigeria Democratic Congress is set to ratify former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, as its presidential candidate today, Friday during the party’s nationwide primaries, following his emergence as the sole aspirant for the ticket. The party also said governorship, National Assembly and state Houses of Assembly candidates would also emerge across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory, despite logistical disruptions caused by the Eid-el-Kabir holidays.
