Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian newspapers.

1. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has lauded the officers and men of the Nigerian Armed Forces as the nation’s heroes while pledging his administration’s unwavering commitment to their welfare. Speaking on Thursday during the commissioning of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Barracks and other newly constructed facilities under the Nigerian Army Special Projects in Abuja, the President expressed profound gratitude for their service.

2. The Federal Government has set a 2027 target for transitioning its examination system to 100 per cent computer-based testing (CBT). The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced this during the inauguration of the Committee on Improvement of Quality Examinations in Nigeria on Thursday in Abuja.

3. A Federal High Court in Abuja, yesterday, proscribed the Lakurawa sect and declared it as a terrorist organisation. The court also designated other similar groups in any part of Nigeria, especially in the North-West and North-Central zones of the country as terrorist organisations.

4. There are indications that banks have begun the implementation of a daily withdrawal limit of N100,000 and a weekly limit of N500,000 on Point-of-Sale terminals. The implementation is coming after a directive by the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN on December 17, 2024, to limit the daily withdrawal on PoS to N100,000 per customer and N500,000 weekly.

5. The Nigerian Air Force yesterday said its Air Component of Operation Fansan Yamma, AC OPFY, has killed scores of bandits and dismantled their logistics base at Alawa Forest in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State. A statement by the Director of NAF Public Relations, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, said the Air strike was a significant achievement in its counter-terrorism campaign.

6. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Mr Nyesom Wike, says President Bola Tinubu’s administration is not about parties but about changing the lives of Nigerians. Wike stated this while inaugurating the five-kilometre dualised Kuje township road, from Tipper Garage Junction to LEA Secretariat, in Kuje Area Council, Abuja.

7. Following the ongoing cult-related killings in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, authorities of the State Command of the Nigeria Police Force have reportedly initiated a conflict resolution mechanism to enforce ‘ceasefire’ from warring cult group leaders in the State. The Command warned that further conflict and killings would lead to automatic arrest and prosecution of the identified leaders.

8. The 10,000 police constables recruited last year by the Nigeria Police Force passed out of various police colleges, on Thursday, after training for six months. The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, disclosed that the new policemen had been posted to their states of origin for community policing.

9. No fewer than 15 lives were reportedly lost in a multiple auto accident involving a trailer and another vehicle in the Oko Olowo area of the Ilorin-Jebba Expressway in Kwara State. It was gathered that several others sustained varying degrees of injury in the Wednesday auto crash.

Residents of the Jacob Beredugo Street in the Ekeki area of Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, were shocked when the decomposed remains of a 45-year-old pastor, Esere Okilo, were discovered in his residence.
