Tems won the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards.

 

Glamtush reports that Nigerian singer Temilade Openiyi, popularly known as Tems, has won the Best African Music Performance category at the 67th Grammy Awards.

She secured the award with her song Love Me JeJe, beating Tomorrow by Yemi Alade, MMS by Asake featuring Wizkid, Sensational by Chris Brown featuring Davido and Lojay, and Higher by Burna Boy.

This marks Tems’ second Grammy win. She earned her first Grammy award for contributing to Future’s hit single ‘Wait For U’.

South Africa’s Tyla won the award for her hit Water in 2024 in the category’s first edition.

Tems received three nominations at this year’s Grammys, bringing her career total to eight. She was also nominated for Best Global Music Album (Born in the Wild) and Best R&B Song (Burning).

 

Tems, delivered a heartfelt speech as she accepted the Best African Music Performance award for her song Love Me Jeje.

Taking the stage, an emotional Tems expressed gratitude, saying, “Wow, dear God. Thank you so much for putting me on this stage and bringing me this team.

“Tomorrow is my mum’s birthday and this is her first Grammys. I just want to thank you ma because she has really done a lot for me and my brother.

“Happy birthday mum. And I want to thank my team. Muyiwa, Wale, my beautiful stylist, and lovely girls… I love you guys.

“Thank you so much. To God be the glory. Honestly, He has changed my life so much.”

 

The 67th Grammy Awards took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles on Sunday.
