A 26-year-old suspect has been arrested by the police over the Anambra nursing student’s murder.
Glamtush reports that the Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old male suspect, Kosisochukwu Ibekwe, in connection with the murder of Miss Vivian Chilaka, a 23-year-old nursing student.
This news platform recalls that the tragic incident which reportedly occurred in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state, on June 14, 2026, attracted widespread public concern, where the landlord of the deceased was fingered.
In a press statement released on Saturday, the Spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, said the suspect was arrested on September 4, following credible and actionable information received by the Command.
Ikenga added that preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly gained access to the building by climbing the fence with the aid of a ladder, with the initial intention of sexually assaulting the victim.
He said after the suspect forcefully gained entry into the deceased’s house, he allegedly used a knife to stab her, leading to her death.
The statement read in part, “The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old male suspect, Kosisochukwu Edward Ibekwe, in connection with the murder of Miss Vivian Chilaka, a 23-year-old nursing student, whose tragic death in Alor, Idemili South Local Government Area, on June 14, 2026, attracted widespread public concern.
“The suspect was arrested on September 4, 2026 following credible and actionable information received by the Command.
“Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect allegedly gained access to the building by climbing the fence with the aid of a ladder, with the initial intention of sexually assaulting the victim.
“According to his statement to the police, a struggle subsequently ensued between him and the deceased, during which he allegedly used a knife to stab her, leading to her death.
“The suspect has also allegedly made revelations linking him to other similar incidents within the community. These claims are currently being subjected to thorough investigation and corroboration by the Command.
“The Command further wishes to clarify that the landlord who was earlier suspected in connection with the incident has been exonerated following the ongoing investigation.
“The Command therefore urges members of the public to disregard any earlier suspicion against him.
“The suspect remains in police custody as investigation continues, particularly into his alleged involvement in other related criminal incidents.”
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, Anambra State Command, CP Nnanna Ama, commends the good people of Alor for their cooperation, patience and support throughout the investigation.
The CP particularly appreciates members of the community who provided timely and useful information that contributed to this significant breakthrough.
“The Commissioner reiterates that the Command will continue to pursue every credible lead in the investigation and ensure that anyone found culpable is brought to justice in accordance with the law.
“The Anambra State Police Command remains resolute in its commitment to protecting lives and property, strengthening public confidence in policing, and ensuring that perpetrators of violent crimes do not escape justice,” the statement added.
