Winnie Harlow Makes History As First Model With Vitiligo To Strut For Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show

Canadian fashion model and public spokesperson on the skin condition, vitiligo, Winnie Harlow, has gradually made a name for herself in the fashion industry.

The 24-year-old was extremely excited as she was one of the models to strut the runway for famous lingerie brand, Victoria’s Secret, at their 2018 fashion show which held on yesterday, Thursday, November 8.

Winnie gracefully strutted the runway dressed in pink lingerie with a silver top decorated with feathers. She also accessorized the look with a silver necklace and feathery heels.

Other top models who also strutted the runway for the brand include Kendall Jenner, Gigi Hadid, Bella Hadid among others.

In an interview with People, Winnie revealed how much the opportunity of walking the runway for Victoria’s Secret means to her.

Winnie said, “It means the world to me. Victoria’s Secret might be the biggest show there is because of how many people are able to watch it around the world, so to be a part of diversifying the Victoria’s Secret Angel landscape is a true honor that I’m so proud of. Any step towards a truly equal and diverse modeling industry is great, but for a huge brand like Victoria’s Secret to include me as a model with vitiligo is a huge step to normalizing it in the entire industry. I’m glad to be the first, but part of me is also sad that there weren’t any before me and I hope that there are many more in the future. We need to work towards diversity, not for the sake of it, but to make it the norm. And I hope this is a big step toward that.”

Harlow gained prominence as a contestant on the twenty-first cycle of the U.S. television series, America’s Next Top Model due to her condition.
