Wike Under Attack Over Appointment Of 14000 Aides

Wike has come under attack over the appointment of 14000 aides.

Glamtush reports that Governor Nyesom Wike has come under attack by groups and opposition in Rivers over his appointment of 14,000 advisers, 319 ward Liaison Officers and 40 local government area liaison Officers as announced on Tuesday.

This online platform understands that while reacting to the appointments made less than eight months to the end of the Governor’s tenure, the Chairman of Civil Society Organization in Rivers state, Enefa George Will, described it as ‘a waste of tax payers’ money.’

He alleged that the appointment is another way to recruit political thugs for the 2023 general elections.

He added that what the Rivers people want is pensionable employment that has passed through the crucibles of the Civil Service process of recruitment and is pensionable.

Also, Chizy Enyi, a lawyer and Chief of Staff to Chief Emeka Beke, the Rivers State Chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC, alleged that the appointment is ‘the most dreaded Greek gift from Governor Wike’

He alleged that the appointments was aimed at encouraging electoral violence as the election is around the corner.

According to the APC chieftain, “Governor Wike appointing 14,000 Special Advisers without approval from Rivers State House of Assembly according to section 196 of 1999 constitution as amended, is deceitful, mischievous and can not stand”.

Wike on Tuesday shocked many in Rivers with the appointment of 14,000 advisers for various political units in the State.

The governor, in a statement signed by his Special Assistant on Media, Kelvin Ebiri said the advisers will play a pivotal role in his administration.

Wike also appointed 319 Ward Liaison Officers and 40 Local Government Area Liaison Officers.

According to the statement, the appointments are with immediate effect.”
