The news broke early this morning that human rights lawyer and activist Dele Farotimi has been abducted.
CKNNEWS learnt that Dele was abducted by plain cloth policemen and taken away from his office in Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, on Tuesday.
The human rights lawyer had earlier posted on his social media handles that a powerful lawyer from the South West was after his life.
He went further to claim in the three-page statement that the lawyer, through his proxies, has tried everything humanly possible to lure him into being arrested through the police command in Ekiti.
While Mr. Farotimi claimed that he was invited a few days back through another petition written by the lawyers of UBA Chairman Tony Elumelu, who accused him of defamation, he said he was eventually released the same day by the police on self-recognition, and that was the end of that incident.
CKNNews can authoritatively confirm that Dele Farotimi’s latest arrest or abduction has nothing to do with Tony Elumelu.
Our investigation has shown that he was arrested based on a petition to the police by Mr. Afe Babalola, SAN.
After his arrest on Tuesday, we learnt he is being ferried out of Lagos to an unknown destination, which some people believe may be Ekiti State.
As at 2 pm, he was tracked to somewhere outside Lagos, probably on his way to Ekiti, as suspected.
Most of his friends and colleagues are raising a lot of anxiety over his safety.
CKNNews check gathered that the senior citizen, an influential lawyer, is not happy with some of the things Farotimi said about him and is ready to take his full pound of flesh.
Many Nigerians have taken to social media to condemn the manner of his arrest, calling for his immediate release or, worse case scenerio be charged to court.
All attempts to get the reaction of the spokesman of the Nigerian Police, ACP Adejobi Olumuyiwa, have been unsuccessful.
The Lagos State Police Command has not also issued a statement on the incident as at the time of this report.
This was Dele Farotimi’s earlier post on Tuesday about a a threat to his life by a senior lawyer below.
