We Stand With Bishop Kukah On Christmas Day Message – Catholic Church

The Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), has declared its unflinching support and solidarity for the Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Revered Father Matthew Hassan Kukah, over his Christmas message in which he accused President Muhammadu Buhari of acts of nepotism.

A statement by the National Director, Social Communications of CSN, Fr. Mike Umoh stressed that with the prolonged security and economic challenges facing the country, the Church stands by Bishop Kukah’s position.

The CSN stressed the situation in Nigeria no longer allows anyone to sit on the fence, adding that indifference is now a greater form of sin.

Fr. Umoh noted that as expected, the agents of evil have gathered to attack the person of the Bishop and to discredit the simple obvious truth of the message, saying that this is the stock in trade of evil people.

The CSN statement further states; “However, they often succeed when good people Christians, choose to do nothing.

“We are therefore calling attention to this new development so that we can all rise in unison and stand for truth. Everyone must choose and stand up for what he/she believes in”.

The CSN further said that the truth about our nation is also that there are only two parties now existing: “the good and the evil, the oppressed and the oppressor, the suffering people and the benefiting government officers and their families.”

While calling on Nigerians to stand in support of the truth, the CSN warned against falling for the antics of those it described as “players of the religious and tribal card even at the expense of the general good of the nation”.

Bishop Kukah in his Christmas message, declared that President Buhari’s acts of nepotism has divided the country adding that it could have led to a coup if he was a non-northern Muslim.

But the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria in its statement condemned and castigated the attackers of Bishop Kukah, adding that such attackers are seeking to instigate violence and hinder national integration by giving the message a different meaning.

“We are quite aware of the 2020 Christmas Message by our revered Bishop Hassan Kukah and the enormous space it has enjoyed on social media and in the public sphere,” the statement said.
