Nigeria thrashed Zambia 5-0 to book their semi-final spot at the ongoing WAFCON 2024.
Glamtush reports that Nigeria’s Super Falcons proved too much for their opponents, Zambia, in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) 2024 quarter-final at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca, beating the Southern Africans 5-0 on Friday.
Osinachi Ohale opened the scoring early with a 2nd minute header, latching onto a cross from a set-piece.
The nine-time champions doubled the lead after Esther Okoronkwo slotted home a shot after a cross from Rasheedat Ajibade
Chinwendu Ihezuo made it three for Nigeria after a long ball from Chiamaka Nnadozie found the striker, and she did the rest with a composed finish.
The second half brought more misery for the Zambians as Nigeria maintained possession and stretched the play.
After the break, Esther Okoronkwo delivered a free kick, with Tosin Demehin meeting it with a towering header.
Folashade Ijamilusi sealed the tie with a tap-in from a Rasheedat Ajibade cross, her first goal for the Super Falcons.
The goals were enough to give the Falcons victory and book their semi-final spot in the tournament.
Friday’s win means Nigeria have now gone four matches without conceding a single goal in the 2024 WAFCON. It also ensured the Super Falcons made it a record 13th semi-final appearance in the competition.
The Super Falcons are the record winners of the WAFCON, taking home the crown nine times.
