Blackface has alleged that Asake’s ‘Joha’ is a sample of his song.

Glamtush reports that Nigerian singer-songwriter, Ahmedu Augustine, with the stage name Blackface, has alleged that Afrobeats sensation, Asake copied his song without permission.

This online platform understands that the former member of the defunct music group, Plantashun Boiz, also accused two of the industry heavyweights, Wizkid and Burna Boy of intellectual property theft.

He made the allegation during a recent interview with Naija FM where he said Asake sampled his song ‘Ikebe Supa’ on the hit single ‘Joha’.

Blackface alleges that his songs were sampled by the trio without his consent, raising concerns about the unauthorized use of his creative work. The veteran singer-songwriter, known for hits like ‘Ghetto Child,’ during the interview, shed light on the similarities between his original tracks and the sampled versions.

Blackface said the song was one of the tracks off his 2022 debut album ‘Joha’. He noted that he feels hurt about the constant unauthorized use of his songs by Afrobeats stars. The dancehall star likened the art to his child, saying the unauthorized use of his music is similar to child molestation.

During the interview, Blackface specifically pointed out that Wizkid and Burna Boy’s collaboration ‘Ginger’ borrowed heavily from his song ‘Twist & Turn.’ He highlighted similarities in the rhythms, beat, and the way the melody commences and concludes, suggesting that only the verses were altered.

Additionally, Blackface accused Asake of sampling his popular track ‘Ikebe Supa’ in his song titled ‘Joha.’ Blackface believes that his influence is evident in Asake’s work, emphasizing the need for acknowledgment and respect within the creative industry.

He said;“Ginger’ by Wizkid and Burna Boy is a sample of my track ‘Twist & Turn’; the rhythms, the beat, how the melody starts and ends. Na only the verses dem change. Asake’s ‘Joha’ is a sample of my song ‘Ikebe Supa.’ I dey inspire them”.

While Blackface expressed his openness to young artists sampling his songs, he emphasized the importance of seeking proper permission and engaging in respectful collaboration. The veteran singer’s allegations have sparked mixed reactions amongst Nigerians
