Veekee James Calls Out Senegalese Designer For Copying Her Viral 2024 Design

Designer Veekee James has called out a Senegalese designer for copying her viral 2024 design.

Glamtush reports that Nigerian fashion designer Veekee James has called out a Senegalese designer identified as King Corset for allegedly copying one of her original designs and passing it off as his own in a documentary.

She took to her Instagram page to vent her frustrations after discovering that the Senegalese designer had reproduced a dress that mirrored her original creation with no noticeable changes and even without acknowledging her.

According to Veekee James, not only was the design copied in its entirety, but the act was also followed by a video documentary from King Corset, which she described as an attempt to claim ownership of the work.

Known for her attention to detail, creativity and elegant couture pieces, Veekee James did not mince words as she addressed what she described as blatant theft of intellectual property.

She wrote,

“Some of you designers in this industry are many MAD. Like seriously mad!
How on earth do you copy someone’s viral design 100% and have the guts to do a documentary?
The reason why a lot of you will never grow or last long in this industry is your lack of originality and effort!
The height is copying someone without even acknowledging them!
Like what’s the difference between you and a thief?
How do you all think God blesses the works of your hands? By stealing? Smh.
There’s more where the creativity came from, that’s why I don’t bother with y’all these days but this had to be said!

Veekee’s post has since stirred mixed reactions online, with many of her followers and fans rallying behind her, praising her for standing up against design plagiarism—a recurring issue in the global fashion industry. However, some have called for dialogue between the two designers to resolve the matter amicably.
