It is true that fashion is personal. Right now, there is a new fashion trend that has taken the internet by storm. It is called the ‘Vagina wigs’ designed by South Korean designer, Kaimin as part of her special ‘Oriental Garden’ collection which made its debut at the 2018 New York Fashion Week.
A wig for the vagina, really? Well, in the photos that have gone viral, some models were pictured strutting the runway showing off their pubic hair covered with merkins better known as vagina Mohawks (vagina wigs) which surprised as well as caught everyone’s attention.
The wigs come in different length, colours, texture and styles just like the normal wig. Some have striking Mohawk’s and are dyed in different colours.
Merkin according to history is derived from the word ‘malkin,’ a derogatory word for lower class women was primarily worn by prostitutes in the 1600 in order to hide any signs of syphilis.
According to a press release by Kaimin, she said that the vaginal wigs is to show acceptance of individuality of the human vagina, assist irregular silhouettes’ and bridge the gap of hard versus soft.
This is definitely the weirdest sartorial innovation on the runway in recent times. But the question is: will ladies wear this new crazy vagina wigs? I guess it is up to them to decide if they actually want to put it on or simply abandon the idea straight away.
Yes, creativity is key for any fashion designer but to come up with this trend is really crazy!
