Education is universally recognized as the foundation for national development and a key instrument for economic progress in any society, state, or nation.
This reality is not lost on Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, who has embarked on pragmatic and far-reaching reforms aimed at creating a modern and functional educational system in Enugu State.
Nnaemeka Charles Eze, member 1V, of Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board, has said, the Governor is giving a massive boost to basic education in the state. Eze while scoring the Government of Ugwuanyi in education said his Governor has provided a new direction with his giant strides in basic Enugu education.
“I would score him high because I am in the system, I know what he has done, what he is doing and some he still intends to do. Governor Ugwuanyi always checks on us to ensure we are doing well because according to him, basic education is the most important level of education and once we don’t get it right at this level, it may never get right again. Not long ago, he mandated the board to capture all the schools that need urgent interventions, and we have just concluded that exercise; which means that we are embarking on another phase of intervention very soon.
We are hoping that most of the primary schools in Enugu state will get the #GBURUSTOUCH before the end of Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi’s administration. It can only get better” he declares. On his office and achievement so far, “As member 1V, Enugu state Universal Basic Education Board, I’m in charge of quality assurance department. Within this short period I have been in office, we have achieved the following;
1. Procurement and distribution of a brand new Toyota Hilux and 17 brand new motorcycles to 17 LGEA in the state.
There is a growing concern about the issue of quality of teaching and learning in basic education. This effectiveness cannot be achieved without the quality assurance department in ENSUBEB & LGEA being strengthened with adequate means of mobility to monitor what’s happening in our schools. The procurement and distribution of these mobilities to the LGEAs has enhanced constant school visits, ranging from; On the spot-checks, Daily School Monitoring, Whole School Evaluation, Continuous Quality Assurance Evaluation, and Examination monitoring and supervision thereby improving the quality of teaching and learning. This has also helped in meeting the National and State education standards set for schools.
2. Migration from Analog to Digital e-quality assurance evaluation;
ENSUBEB signed a contract with the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA) to supply 20 Samsung tablets, host a central Server and train the Quality Assurance Evaluators (QAE) drawn from across the 17 LGEAs on the use of the tablet and various evaluation instruments. This programme has enhanced the activities of Quality Assurance making its evaluation process to be digitalized. Its report is very accurate & limits possible human errors and is also available to all educational stakeholders anywhere in the world. Our schools are now quality assured for effective teaching and learning.
3. Teachers Development Programme (TDP) ENSUBEB organizes TDP quarterly for continuous professional Development
It should also be noted that the support of stakeholders especially school level actors, is crucial to the attainment of the noble objectives of the new quality assurance framework, various system administrators at the State and local government levels, school heads, teachers, & other members of school/community stakeholders have been trained under the TDP to enhance various inputs and process that are critical to the attainment of the full objectives of the Universal Basic Education (UBE) programme. Kindly note, that all these would not have been possible without the partnership between the Enugu State government and Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), Abuja – a partnership that works. According to our education-friendly governor, Rt. Hon. Dr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, “every child has the right to free, sound and standard education regardless of class or status. Enugu state is in the hands of God,” he highlighted.
