Tricyclist Stoned To Death In Bayelsa community For Killing Passenger Over N50

A tricyclist has been stoned to death in the Bayelsa community for killing a passenger over N50.

Glamtush reports that a tricycle operator was on Wednesday killed by a mob in the Kpansia area of the Yenagoa metropolis in Bayelsa State.

This online platform gathered that the mob action followed the alleged stabbing to death of a young man by the operator of the tricycle, also called Keke.

The Keke rider was said to have stabbed the unidentified young man to death after they had an argument over N50 change. The victim died on the spot.

Angered by his action, some residents around the scene attacked and lynched the Keke rider to death with stones.

The youth, identified as Douglas Joseph, 30, was a native of the community and a father of three.

One of the witnesses who spoke with Daily Post said they were outside, by Saptex junction, in Yenizue-Epie, when they noticed the argument between the Keke rider and Joseph.
He said: “He said he was coming from Opolo community to Kpansia which was supposed to be N100, but the Keke rider insisted on collecting N150.

“As we were separating them, we saw the Keke rider bring out a dagger. We thought it was just to scare the youth. But he stabbed him on his lap and the young man fell to the ground. People prevented the Keke rider from running away. Unfortunately, his wounded victim died. Following his death, the Keke rider was lynched by a mob that hit him with different objects.”

Meanwhile, the Bayelsa State Police Command has confirmed the incidents.

The command, in a statement by its spokesperson, Asinim Butswat, also condemned the murder of the youth by the Keke rider as well as his lynching.

He said, “The Bayelsa State Police Command has deployed an anti-riot squad to restore normalcy at Kpansia and environs, over the unfortunate murder of a community youth by a tricycle rider.

“The youth was allegedly stabbed to death by the tricycle rider over a minor disagreement.

“The Command condemns the action of the tricycle rider, who was also lynched to death by irate youths and appeal to members of the community to be calm.”
