Good morning! Here is today’s summary from Nigerian newspapers.

1. The Minister of Education, Dr Tunji Alausa, announced that the 16-year admission benchmark into tertiary institutions remains. Alausa spoke at his inaugural briefing in Abuja on Tuesday with the Minister of State for Education, Dr Suwaiba Ahmad and Permanent Secretary, Dr Nasiru Sani-Gwarzo.

2. Vice President Kashim Shettima said President Bola Tinubu ordered the release of the minors facing trial for treason on compassionate grounds. The VP said this on Tuesday while receiving the minors at the Presidential Villa shortly after their charges were dropped by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi.

3. President Bola Tinubu has decorated the Acting Chief of Army Staff, Olufemi Oluyede, as Lieutenant General. The short ceremony took place at the president’s office on Tuesday. President Tinubu commended the military for its unwavering courage, dedication, and patriotism in maintaining the nation’s security.

4. The national grid has suffered yet another collapse, plunging the country into another round of darkness. The grid suffered multiple collapses in the month of October, with the Federal Government promising a permanent solution to the embarrassment.

5. No fewer than 20 beggars recently picked from the streets of Abuja city centre were said to have escaped from the FCT Rehabilitation Centre, where they are being kept at Kuchiko-Bwari on the outskirts of Bwari town. They were said to have escaped through a fence at the back of the Centre on Sunday night.

6. Senator Ali Ndume has said the tax reform bill of the President Bola Tinubu administration is dead on arrival. Ndume stated this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today on Tuesday. He said that Northern leaders were totally against the bill because it was against the north.

7. The former governor of Delta State, Ifeanyi Okowa, is still being held at the Port Harcourt, Rivers State, office of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission. This makes it his second night in the custody of the anti-graft agency. This is as the Delta State chapter of All Progressives Congress backed the detention of the former governor, describing it as a positive step in Nigeria’s ongoing battle against corruption.

8. No fewer than three people were killed when rival cult groups clashed in North Bank, a suburb of Makurdi, the Benue State capital city. It was gathered on Tuesday that in a renewed clash of the Black and Red cult groups on Monday, one person was killed.

9. The police in Imo State on Tuesday confirmed a bomb explosion in the state. The explosion reportedly caused stampede and confusion as people ran helter-skelter, leading to many being injured. It is reported that people were in the market when the explosion was heard, and everyone scampered for safety.

10. Members of the local vigilantes from Madaka community in Rafi Local Government Area of Niger State on Monday laid ambush for bandits and killed no fewer than 16 persons, while several others escaped with bullet injuries.
