1. The 20 medical students of University of Jos and University of Maiduguri abducted in Benue State last week are out of their captors’ den, the State Police Command confirmed last night. Their rescue was made possible by the joint efforts of the military, the police and the Department of State Services (DSS).

2. Nigeria has recorded 40 confirmed cases of Monkeypox (Mpox) from 830 suspected cases in the country but no death has been recorded so far, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC has said. Meanwhile, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC) has declared Mpox a Public Health Emergency of Continental Security (PHECS) after a 160% increase in cases this year.

3. Following the statutory retirement of some members of the management team of Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), the Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi has approved key management appointments in acting capacity and redeployment to enhance strategic service delivery. The service made this known in a statement on Friday.

8. The Nigerian Education Loan Fund has clarified that geopolitical zones do not influence the disbursement of its funds. This came after NELFUND shared that it had released the sum of N2.94bn to 19 universities for 27,667 students. The list revealed that universities in the South-East and South-South regions were not included among the beneficiaries, sparking criticism from some Nigerians.

9. Barely 24 hours after a truck rammed into a vehicle and a pedestrian in the Lafenwa area of Ogun State, two persons were killed when a truck crushed a tricycle in the Papalanto area of the state. The accident, according to the spokesman for the Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, Babatunde Akinbiyi, occurred in the early hours of Friday.

10. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum has reaffirmed its support for Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers State amid the ongoing crisis in the state. The governors pledged to engage with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party to review the congresses recently held in Rivers State and address any discrepancies.
