1. The Transmission Company of Nigeria, TCN, said on Sunday that more than 18 transmission towers have been vandalized within six days.

According to a statement by the TCN General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah, the facilities were destroyed between January 9 and 14.

2. The Caretaker Committee of the Labour Party (LP) has said it will seek further clarification on the party’s leadership dispute at the Supreme Court.

A statement by the National Caretaker Committee Chairman, Senator Nenadi Usman, and the National Caretaker Committee Secretary, Senator Darlington Nwokocha, noted that the recent ruling by the Appeal Court had raised issues that only the Supreme Court could address.

3. The 774 local governments are to open dedicated accounts with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to directly disburse allocations from the Federation Account, the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria, ALGON, said on Sunday.

The National President, Bello Lawal Yandaki, stated that opening these accounts is critical to implementing the Supreme Court ruling on direct allocations to the councils.

4. Gunmen on Sunday invaded a Celestial Church of Christ (CCC) in Idiroko, Ipokia Local Government Area of Ogun State, and shot dead a 54-year-old Prophet, Yomi Adetula.

It was gathered that the hoodlums stormed the CCC Eagle Parish along Baggage Road, Odo Eran, Idiroko, around 10:30 a.m. and opened fire during the service.

5. Troops of the Nigerian Army reportedly stormed the location of notorious terrorist kingpin Bello Turji, destroying his food storage facility and killing one of his sons. Counter-insurgency and security expert in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, confirmed the development in a post via X on Saturday.

6. Operatives of the Imo Police Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit have reportedly dismantled a notorious kidnapping syndicate terrorizing Ubomiri, Ogbaku, and Ohii communities in the Mbaitoli Local Government Area of the state.

The command’s Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Henry Okoye, disclosed this in a statement issued in Owerri and made available to newsmen on Sunday.

7. The Federal Government has set up a committee of stakeholders to investigate the remote and immediate causes of Saturday’s petrol tanker accident at Dikko Junction, Dikko-Maje Minna Road, Gurara Local Government Area (LGA), Niger State.

As of Sunday, the death toll rose to 86, with 55 others confirmed injured. Eighty corpses were recovered and given a mass burial at the Dikko Primary Health Center premises.

8. The Catholic Diocese of Warri, Delta State, has suspended Rev. Fr. Daniel Okanatotor Oghenerukevwe from priestly duties following his alleged marriage, reportedly sealed in the United States of America. This was contained in a statement titled “Decree of Suspension,” dated Thursday, January 16, 2025, copies of which were made available to journalists in Warri on Sunday.

9. At least one person was killed, and no fewer than 10 houses were razed in the Ndieguzu Agalegu Omege community in the Ikwo Local Government Area of Ebonyi State on Saturday night.

It was learned on Sunday that many people were injured after suspected hoodlums attacked the community.

10. The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has ruled out reconciling with Rivers State Governor Sim Fubara, intensifying the two leaders’ ongoing political conflict.

Speaking during a live media chat broadcast on several television stations in Abuja on Sunday, Wike criticized Fubara for failing to adhere to directives issued by President Bola Tinubu during a peace meeting aimed at resolving their differences.
