1. President Bola Tinubu has decided to skip the 79th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York, opting instead to focus on Nigeria’s pressing domestic challenges, particularly the recent devastating flooding that has affected the country. A statement issued on Thursday by his media, Bayo Onanuga said Vice President Kashim Shettima will lead Nigeria’s delegation in his place.

2. The National Examinations Council (NECO) has released the 2024 SSCE internal results. This was disclosed on Thursday, September 19, by the NECO’s Registrar/Chief Executive, Professor Dantani Wushishi, while briefing journalists in Minna during the release of the 2024 SSCE internal results.

3. The Police have confirmed the arrest of a young man identified as Alex who allegedly kidnapped a young lady and kept her in the popular Top View Hotel, Wuse, Abuja. According to a trending video on social media, Alex was seen with the lady in a room with management of the hotel and an officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence (NSCDC) where he was arrested.

4. Tragedy struck in Ifetedo community in Ife South local government area of Osun State after a dilapidated building collapsed and killed a woman. It was gathered that the incident occurred around 5:30pm when the deceased was around the building. A statement by the spokesperson of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), Kehinde Adeleke on Thursday confirmed that one Mrs Idowu was killed when the building collapsed.

5. The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has said once the Electronic Central Motor Registration (e-CMR) goes into effect, vehicle owners and users will no longer need to carry physical documents. All vehicle documents and information, the police said, will be available digitally. The Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, made this known on Wednesday night in a post via his account on the X platform.

6. Godwin Obaseki, the Governor of Edo State, has alleged that a former state governor is using a police helicopter to campaign for the opposition party in Edo State. Obaseki stated this during an interview on Channels TV’s Politics Today. He said that the governorship election is a do-or-die affair because Edo people will not allow the APC to take over the state.

7. The Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps carried out an early morning raid in Lekki on Thursday, leading to the arrest of 25 miscreants in a bid to strengthen law and order. This was revealed in a statement by the Commissioner for Water and Environmental Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, on X.com on Thursday.

8. Edo State Governor, Godwin Obaseki, has described Nigeria as technically bankrupt. The Court of Appeal in Abuja on Thursday granted the request of the Federal Government and a former Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Samuel Nkanu Walter Onnoghen, to settle out of court an appeal challenging his removal as CJN. The decision of the court followed information to the effect that the two parties in the suit have intensified efforts to reach an amicable settlement of all issues in dispute.
