1. Some of the governorship aspirants of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ondo State yesterday rejected the conduct of the primacy election and demanded its cancellation. They also passed a vote of no confidence in the chairman of the primary election committee, Kogi State governor, Usman Ododo.

2. Violence broke out on Saturday at a meeting of stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area in Edo State. The well-attended, strategic meeting, ahead of the April 24 commencement of campaigns and September 21, 2024 governorship election, was hosted at the private residence of Ikpoba-Okha LGA’s apex leader of APC, Ehiozuwa Agbonayinma, a former governorship aspirant off Dumez/Sapele Road, Benin.

3. Vice President Kashim Shettima has expressed optimism about the performance of the Naira at the forex market, saying it will appreciate more as the dollar continues to crash. He stated this when a delegation from the Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, LCCI, led by its President, Gabriel Idahosa, paid him a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

4. The acting traditional ruler of Igbomotoru 1 community, Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, Bayelsa State, His Royal Highness Goodluck Alagodei, on Saturday, raised the alarm over alleged attack, torture and arrest of returning indigenes and residents who fled the community following military invasion over the killing of 17 soldiers in Okuama, Delta State.

5. No fewer than 11 persons lost their lives while 16 others were injured, in an auto crash at Gaya junction along the Kano – Maiduguri road. One person was rescued unhurt. The Kano State FRSC Sector Commander, Ibrahim Sallau-Abdullahi, disclosed this in a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, Abdullahi Labaran, yesterday in Kano.

6. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, says it has begun investigation of 11 suspected oil thieves and one vessel, MT SAISNIL II, arrested by the Nigerian Navy. The spokesperson for the commission, Mr Dele Oyewole, confirmed this in a statement on Saturday. He said the vessel and the crew were intercepted and arrested on February 7, 2024, by naval officers.

7. Oil marketers are gearing up to load refined petroleum products from the Port Harcourt Refining Company, as workers at the facility race to get it set for production on the directives of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited. Dealers confirmed on Friday that the PHRC was almost set to start releasing products, projecting a N500/litre price for Premium Motor Spirit, popularly called petrol, from the Port Harcourt refinery in Rivers State.

8. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has instituted a further crackdown on currency speculators and cryptocurrency platforms manipulating the naira. Sources within the commission said the EFCC was not only going after Binance but every cryptocurrency platform and others involved in the manipulation of the Nigerian foreign exchange market.

9. Four out of the 16 aspirants jostling for the governorship ticket of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the ongoing primary have demanded the cancellation of the exercise. The aggrieved governorship aspirants: Wale Akinterinwa, Olusola Oke, Olugbenga Edema, and Dayo Faduyile accused the seven-man committee overseeing the primary, headed by Kogi governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, of perpetrating fraud.

10. The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission, FCCPC, has commenced fact-finding interactions with traders’ associations and marketers to ascertain factors responsible for the continuous hike in food prices despite naira gains against the dollar.
