Football

Football is the most favorite sport in Zambia. Rugby

Zambian people also have a big love for rugby. This sport is most popular among teenagers. There are about 16 rugby clubs in the country now.

Corné Krige is Zambia’s most famous rugby player. He is also among the most profitable rugby players in Africa. He used to be the captain of the South African national team before having finished his career in 2005.

Golf

Golf was brought to Zambia by the British, who built the country’s first golf club in Livingstone in 1907. Golf tournaments have been held in Zambia since 1954. The most famous among them include the Zambia Open, the ZANACO Masters tournament, and the Zambia Open Ladies championship.

Basketball

Although there are several residential areas that have a basketballer in Zambia, the country has no professional basketball player who took part in the NBA Development League. However, basketball attracts a lot of fans in the country, especially young Zambian boys and girls.

If you visit the country, you may find teenagers wearing NBA stars emblazoned hoods, sweatshirts, t-shirts, vests, etc. Nowadays, many schools in Zambia also have basketball training facilities to help young players polish their skills.

Volleyball

Volleyball is played regularly in several schools and government institutions in Zambia.  Just like other ball games, volleyball has a firm footing in the country. Zambia hosts several championships for youth to compete and prove their prowess. There are also programs that the country can use to horn young volleyball talent.

Sports are the most common unifying culture for the Zambian people. They have a big love for sports, especially the 6 games we have mentioned above.
