1. The Federal Government is set to commence the trial of about 2,000 Boko Haram members arrested for participating in terror activities and has lined up eight judges to handle the special trial. The trial will take place in Kainji, Niger State, under a secure environment provided by a special security outfit, Operation Safe Corridor.
2. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu will depart Abuja for Guinea-Bissau on Saturday, July 8, to attend the 63rd Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
3. A Federal High Court in Kano has restrained the Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission (PCACC) from inviting or harassing former governor of the state, Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, over the alleged dollar bribery videos. Justice A.M. Liman gave the order on Friday following an ex-parte motion filed by the former governor.
4. A 21-year-old woman, Maimuna Suleiman has been arrested for allegedly stabbing her husband, Aliyu Mohammed, to death in Bauchi State. The Bauchi State Police Command confirmed the incident, stating that the suspect has been taken into custody.
5. President Bola Tinubu has approved the establishment of a presidential committee on fiscal policy and tax reforms. The President named Taiwo Oyedele, Fiscal policy partner and Africa tax leader at PriceWaterhouseCoopers (PwC), as the chairman of the committee.
6. A Federal High Court sitting in Lagos on Friday remanded a suspected Ponzi scheme operator, Mr. Bamishe Ajetunmobi for an alleged N7.5 billion fraud. Justice Chukwuejekwu Aneke ordered that Ajetunmobi be kept in the custody of the Nigerian Correctional Services (NCoS) pending the determination of charges filed by the police against him. He adjourned till November 29, for commencement of trial.
7. The Supreme Court has dismissed an appeal by Ikie Aghwarianovwe seeking the disqualification of the Governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori for allegedly supplying false information about his academic qualification and date of birth to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). Justice Adamu Jauro wrote the lead judgment, which was read on Friday by Justice Emmanuel Agim.
8. The Rivers State Chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has called on President Bola Tinubu to disregard what it perceives as covert actions by intrusive outsiders to facilitate the takeover of the party in the state by former Governor Nyesom Wike. This was contained in an open letter to President Tinubu, dated July 6, and made available to newsmen in Abuja on Friday.
9. The Nigerian Army says troops of Operation Hadarin Daji have rescued no fewer than 24 persons abducted by bandits in Zamfara State. The service said the victims were freed after soldiers engaged the bandits in a fierce gun battle on Friday that resulted in the death of at least four persons.
10. The Lagos State Police Command has arrested a 44-year-old businessman, Amara Kennedy, for circulating nude photos of his former lovers. Kennedy was arrested on Friday in the Oshodi area of the state after one of his victims, Kester, agreed to meet him under the pretext of resolving their disagreement.
