1. Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Hassan Abubakar, on Friday apologised to the Nasarawa State government and the families of victims of the 2023 airstrike. Speaking during a condolence visit to Governor Abdullahi Sule at Government House, Lafia, the state capital, Abubakar explained that the airstrike that killed several persons was not deliberate.
2. Minister of Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Nyesom Wike, has berated council chairmen who have abandoned monthly security meetings. Wike, who spoke at a town hall meeting in the Abuja Municipal Area Council, AMAC, said henceforth any of the council chairmen who fails to host the meeting would be declared a security threat.
3. The International Court of Justice in The Hague, Friday, delivered its ruling on the allegations of genocide in Gaza by Israel, levelled by South Africa. Following the attack on October 7, 2023, Israel launched a military campaign against Gaza, killing thousands of civilians.
4. Some members of the iReign Christian Ministry, Lagos, on Friday, expressed shock as the church’s founder and senior pastor, Bishop Oluwafeyiropo (Feyi) Daniels, was sentenced to life imprisonment by an Ikeja Sexual Offences and Domestic Violence Court for raping a church member.
5. No fewer than 140 officials will track and assess the performance of federal ministries, departments, and agencies ahead of the first assessment exercise at the end of this month. This is as the officials joined the third technical retreat for delivery desk officers of federal ministries on the implementation of presidential priorities and ministerial deliverables in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
6. Pandemonium erupted at Araromi Ilogbo Secondary School in Oko Afo, Lagos, as pupils of the school protested the demise of one of their colleagues who was allegedly flogged to death by a teacher. The incident was said to have occurred on Thursday when the deceased, identified as David Babadipo, was allegedly flogged by the teacher whose name was given as Oluwale.
7. Gunmen have abducted the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State, Philip Aivoji and some other party chieftains. They were said to have been abducted at the Ogere area of the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Thursday.
8. There was anxiety at Ibadan Airport on Friday when a private jet conveying 12 passengers with three crew members on board overshot the runway of the aerodrome. A document sighted by The Nation revealed that the private jet with registration number N580KR was operated by Mattini Air.
9. Members of the Rivers State House of Assembly appear to have returned to the trenches in their battle of wits with Governor Siminalayi Fubara. The House on Friday passed a bill stripping the governor of power to appoint caretaker committees for the local government areas.
10. The crisis rocking Ogun Assembly took a new dimension on Friday night with impeached Speaker, Kunle Oluomo, declaring that he remains the Speaker. Oluomo, who represents Ifo State Constituency 1, was sacked from office on Tuesday by 18 lawmakers over alleged gross misconduct. Oludaisi Elemide was elected to replace him.
