The new series The Lord of the skies (El Señor de los Cielos) is based on the life and work of Amado Carrillo Fuentes, the former leader of the Juarez Cartel described as the most powerful drug trafficker of his time. It stars Rafael Amaya as the main character.
The series has won several awards including International Emmy Award for Non-English Language Us primetime programme as well as Premios Tu Mundo novela of the year for three consecutive years. Not to mention a record breaking ratings across the five seasons.
The story of The Lord of the skies follows Aurelio Casillas’ journey in his efforts to become the leading, and only, drug dealer in Mexico in the ’90s, taking Pablo Escobar’s place in the region.
To do so, he must overcome all sorts of obstacles, in a whirlwind of action, emotions, unbridled passions, luxuries, intrigue, and betrayal. However, Aurelio’s only obstacle is Marco Mejia, a police officer from Mexico with the goal of capturing him. Mejia who lost his father because of Aurelio, manages to make Casillas face revealed by the press and the news media.
After the appearance of his picture in the press, Casillas, whose fleet of 27 aircraft he used to transport drugs, earned him the nickname “The Lord of the Skies”, decides to undergo a risky plastic surgery to change his face and disappear without a trace, putting the lives of his beloved Ximena and their children at risk.
After several months, Marco manages to make Aurelio fall, confiscating his land, mansions and jewels. Aurelio, after being cornered, decides to have a face operation, in which he supposedly dies, thus causing his empire of power to fall.
Aurelio and his wife Ximena (Ximena Herrera) have three children, Rutila (Carmen Aub), Heriberto (Ruy Senderos) and Luz Marina (Gala Montes). He also has his faithful brother Chacorta (Raúl Méndez) who helps him in all his illicit businesses.
The novela features Rafael Amaya, Andrés Parra, Carmen Villalobos, Robinson Diaz, Carmen Aub, Raul Mendez, Fernanda Castillo, Ximena Herrera and others.
The show is set to be among the two great series set to premier soon on Telemundo Africa with the return of Woman of steel season 3 on Monday, March 26.
Lord of the skies premieres on Telemundo Africa on Monday, April 9 at 10:00 pm.
