Tafawa Balewa’s Only Surviving Wife Dies

Hajia Aisha Jummai the only surviving wife of late Prime Minister Alhaji Sir Abubakar Tafawa Balewa, died on Sunday, Oct 27. She died at the age of 85.

Hajara Wanka, a granddaughter to the late prime minister, confirmed the death of Abubakar in a telephone interview with NAN on Sunday night.

Wanka said the deceased, her grandmother, died at 4 pm on Sunday in Lagos, following a cardiac arrest, leaving behind eight children and many grandchildren.

She said the deceased had returned from a two-week medical trip in India but decided to stay awhile in Lagos with her daughter when the death occurred.

She said her remains would be brought to Bauchi on Monday for burial.
