The series was inspired by some personal experiences of many youths while trying to find a foot in life and the challenges that comes with living and hustling in a city like Lagos.
The sitcom centres around the life of urban contemporary youths living in Lagos and Nigeria generally, who, on everyday basis, strive to live a good life amidst challenges, hustling, and some favourable and unfavourable conditions.
The story touches love, emotions, intrigues and generally, laughter.
It is a story that centers around the lives of four main characters living together and doing all they can to be the best they can be.
Think Friends without the friendship. The lead characters are so different, they naturally butt heads but at the center of it all, they are just trying to survive and live their best lives!
Meet the lead characters below;
Francis
A creative with quite the imagination and usually portrayed literally. A brand guy who comes out with some topnotch creativity. Comes off as quite spoilt because of his over bearing mom. Has a close relationship with his mother who usually video calls him.
Holds on to the belief that you have to be fair to people and there is no reason to lie; most times. He is still in love with his ex who always shows up when she needs something but he still believes they can make things work which is why he is never committed to another girl.
Karen: Miss No Nonsense
Karen was raised by a single mother who fled an abusive father and she has also been through a bad relationship with her live-in boyfriend which resulted in her relocation to Lagos from Abuja. Her experiences have made her a hard nailed person on the outside.
She is a card carrying feminist although she very much wants to belong to the boys club in the world of finance She is quick to call people out on what she considers wrong and believes everyone is out to exploit you so do it to them before they get the chance to do it you.
Justin
A hustler who always has a new side hustle / get rich quick scheme. He thinks he is God’s gift to women and doesn’t understand why females want equity when they have always had it easy. He wants to live the life and Francis; his friend for a long time and besties, is the only person he seems to be loyal to.
Abike
Street wise babe who is trying to make money in this life. She is a friend to Karen and always encourage Karen to aspire for the soft life. She is not shy about being with guys that can finance her lifestyle but because she is attracted to Francis and wants to look good to him, although the feeling is not mutual. She wants to live the picture perfect life. Has an actual picture in her wallet of where she would be living in her future like an island.
The series directed by Femi Idowu a.k.a King Samurai, features a number of industry stars, including Laide Bakare, Aaron Sunday, Joy Nice, Kingsley Nwachukwu, Adenike Ayodele, Chris Iheuwa, Peace Christopher, Ruth Jacob and Edna Ese, Zikky Alloy, Mc Lander and a host of others.
Surviving GIDI premiered on Friday March 21, 2023 on Silverbird Television Network across the country and on DSTV channel 252 and it will air every Friday on the station plus more station announcement to follow soon.
