Super Falcons Win Women’s Team Of The Year At CAF Awards 2023

Super Falcons won the Women’s Team of the Year at the CAF Awards 2023.

Glamtush reports that the Super Falcons have been named the Women’s Team of the Year at the CAF Awards 2023.

The year’s award came off the back of an impressive showing at the World Cup earlier in the year.

Nigeria’s brave ladies bowed out of the competition in the round of 16. They lost to England on penalties after normal and extra time ended barren.

Before the defeat, the Super Falcons did not lose a match in their three group games. They drew Olympic champions Canada, shock co-hosts Australia, and settled for a point against the Republic of Ireland.

The Super Falcons beat South Africa and Morocco, fellow World Cup campaigners, for the prize on Monday night. With the win in the Moroccan city of Marrakech, Nigeria are now the most-awarded team in the category having gotten it five times.

Monday’s feat is the second National Team of the Year award in a row for the record African champions. They last won it in 2018.

The award is a morale booster for the team ahead of the CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (AWCON) billed for the North African country next year. Nigeria will be eyeing a victory in the competition after they finished an abysmal third in the last edition held in 2022.
