Our Woman Crush this week is top and respected Nigerian fashion designer, Nikki Odu-Khiran. You cannot talk about the Nigerian fashion industry without mentioning, her name.
It is interesting to know that from a young age, fashion has always been part of Khiran’s life. This passion led her to the London College of Fashion where she majored in Fashion Design Technology and spent years before returning to Nigeria to set up the Nikki Khiran Couture in 1995.
Since her return, she has created a fashion and lifestyle brand that includes couture, ready-to-wear, accessories and home-ware decor lines appreciated in and outside Nigeria.
For Khiran, her brand is about timeless, elegant and effortless clothes for real women with real curves as well as exquisite tailoring on gorgeous fabrics, and home-ware decor to add that little extra something to make your space more comfortable.
The stylish Kogi born designer who has stayed relevant for about 25 years in the fashion industry, defines her style as bohemian chic. She loves ethereal clothing, layering, fluidity, asymmetric cuts, bold prints, silks, jersey, silk chiffon, tulle, lace and also likes to do ‘sexy’ in an understated lady-like way.
That’s why she embraces all fabrics, loves vibrant colour and animal prints.
When it comes to fashion accessories, Khiran cannot do without her wristwatch even if she’s not going out. She’s not a great fan of too much makeup as she personally enjoys and admires natural beauty.
Also, she does not believe a woman should go out without perfume, deodorant or make-up. And that is because there’s nothing more appealing than a nice smelling man or woman, and a bit of make-up to brighten the face, but not a mask of make-up, but a bit.
So, check out some of her bohemian chic style look which she completes with her charming smile.
